1st Chinese writing competition held in Germany

More and more people around the world have initiated great interests for Chinese culture. Many people have begun learning Chinese. Recently, the first Chinese writing competition in Germany attracted many Chinese culture lovers to participate.

Last Saturday, the competition winners gathered in Berlin. Their ages ranged from five-year-old children to older folks who have retired. One winner was especially delighted when her article "I Love Eileen Chang's Novels" won top prize.

Cristina Simonetti, Winner, said, "I love Eileen Chang's novels and articles. I think through Eileen Chang's novels, I can have a better understanding of Chinese culture. Her wording is especially unique and beautiful."

The writing competition received 127 articles as submissions and was greatly welcomed by the participants.

Cui Jianxiong, Principal, Yizhi Chinese Culture School, Berlin, said, "The enthusiasm of the participants and the high level of the writing has greatly surprised us. Many people wrote to us and told us that it is a fantastic way of helping people, especially children, to learn Chinese language and culture."

Although the participants' cultural backgrounds are different, they have found their own way to understand Chinese Culture and describe the fast pace of development in today's China.
