3 Chengyus for New iPad Launch in China

Today, Apple looks to build on this success with the launch of the "New iPad" in China. Whether you are an Apple fanatic or stubborn skeptic, we bring you 3 chengyus to celebrate the occasion!
1. 万众瞩目- wàn zhòng zhǔ mù
万 (wàn): 10,000, a large number
众 (zhòng): crowd, public
瞩 (zhǔ): stare, gaze
目 (mù): eyes
From its visionary founder, to its meticulously crafted products, to its eye-popping stock price, this company has seized the minds and imaginations of a worldwide audience. On the eve of another product launch, this chengyu, meaning "capturing everybody's attention" is a clear fit for this extraordinary company.

wàn zhòng zhǔ mù de lún dūn ào yùn huì jí jiāng jiē kāi zhàn mù,4 nián yī dù de tǐ yù shèng shì yòu jiāng láo láo xī yǐn quán shì jiè de mù guāng
The attention grabbing London Olympics will soon begin, the once every 4 year athletic spectacle will surely attract the world's notice.
2. 望眼欲穿- wàng yǎn yù chuān
望 (wàng): hope, expect (as in 希望- xī wàng- to hope)
眼 (yǎn): eye (as in 眼睛- yǎn jīng- eye)
欲 (yù): want, desire
穿 (chuān): to wear
This indicates "burning expectations" or to be "anxiously awaiting". It literally translates as "wishful eyes hope to wear", viscerally illustrating the burning desire to own something. Apple stores, with their sleek layouts and inviting gadgetry, hope to foster these consumer impulses. Ignoring the gross excesses this marketing can cause, who can deny the sheer beauty and temptation Apple devices embody?

duì ài qíng wàng yǎn yù chuān de nǐ zhī suǒ yǐ xún xún mì mì, yóu yóu yù yù……dōu zhǐ shì pà ài cuò
You eagerly await love, searching, hesitating…all beacause you are afraid of mistakes!

3. 拭目以待- shì mù yǐ dài
拭 (shì): wipe
目 (mù): eyes
以 (yǐ): preposition meaning "so", "in order to" (as in 所以- suǒ yǐ- so)
待 (dài): wait, stay
With only marginal improvements over the previous iteration, not everybody is madly clamoring to buy the new iPad. Literally "rub eyes and wait", this chengyu means to "eagerly await the result". It indicates you are looking forward to feasting your eyes on the new product, but not to the manic consumer-instinct levels of 望眼欲穿. Instead of lining up outside Apple stores for hours, perhaps you'll want to read detailed reviews, hear what your friends have to say, or test one in store before shelling out your cash.
