1. 井底之蛙
(jǐng dǐ zhī wā) person with limited experience or vision; ignorant: 你不了解外面的世界，只会像井底之蛙一样目光短浅。
This chengyu can be used a lot when describing someone that's not very experienced.
The story behind this idiom is that of a frog at the bottom of a well. All he sees everyday when he looks up is the sky, but it is as big as the top of the well's circular outline. When a bird flies by and rests on top of the well, the frog is intrigued and asks where it came from. The bird told the frog it flew from a far away place. Shaking his head in disbelief, the frog said, "no way, trust me. I look at the sky everyday and you couldn't possibly have flown from anywhere since the sky is only as big as the top of the well.
This story reflects how ignorant the frog is. He doesn't know how big the sky (or whole situation) is because all he can see is that little, part of the sky, outlined by the well.
So, whether is the boy that's never traveled out of his hometown village, unaware of what's going on in the world, or someone that's never gone to college and had to climb corporate America's ladder, this chengyu can be used to describe them.
