How to improve your English?

Wondering why you find yourself out of place in his changing world? Maybe it is time to give your English skills a recheck. Good knowledge of English is a must have in any walk of life today. Be it school, office, seminar, campus interview or any other place, it is virtually mandatory.

Here are some steps which will enable you to improve your English.

Read a lot

Read as much as you can. English magazines, comics, journals, novels- anything which you like. Don't start with too difficult ones. Go stepwise. Keep a dictionary alongside. Any word which you don't understand, look up its meaning and write it down in a notebook.

Watch & Listen

Feel slightly embarrassed when your friends talk about English movies because you haven't seen it? Start watching them. May be it will be a bit difficult initially given the accent and fast dialogue delivery. So watch English movies with sub-titles. If you can't pick them from their mouth, you can refer the subtitles.

Use the Internet

You can learn English online. Online classes have excellent tutors who teach you via video conferencing and make sure that you get the meaning and pronunciation correct. You can take these classes any time as per your routine allows you to. They also give you audio tapes. Listen to them when you are on the move.

Practice, Practice and Practice some more

Get hold of a friend or family member who has good knowledge of English. Do conversations in English without any hesitancy. They will point out your mistake when you go wrong.

Learn something new everyday

A word, a proverb or anything. Just make it a habit that you learn something new each day. It will keep the hunger to learn English alive.

Don't be shy

Afraid of the fact that others will make fun of you if you lapse while speaking in English? Don't be. Nobody is perfect. You won't learn if you do not commit mistakes. Real friends will encourage you, not discourage you. Always look for improvement and introspect over constructive criticism.

Never stop

Learning any language is a never ending process. Never assume that you have learnt everything you needed to. You will come across various new things about English throughout your life. So always strive to improve your skills.
